SnowStorm
- a new HP Itanium 2 Cluster at UiT.
As a result of the collaboration between UiT and HP,
and within NOTUR, a new
Itanium 2
based Linux Cluster from HP are recently
installed at the University of Tromsø. This cluster has replaced the old
HP i2000 cluster at UiT.
The cluster consists of
with a total of 22 CPU's. The nine servers are connected with Gigabit Ethernet and have an
aggregated peak performance of 82 Gflop.
The new cluster will be an important experimental system at the University of Tromsø,
and it will be available for UiT and NOTUR users upon request from April 1st 2003.

System Configuration for SnowStorm:
Seven HP rx2600 servers, each with
- 2 CPU's: 900 MHz Itanium 2
- Cache, L1/L2/L3: 32kB / 256kB / 1.5MB (all are on-chip)
- 2 GB of DDR-SDRAM memory
- 2 x 36 GB disks
- 3.6 Gflops / CPU
- Gigabit Ethernet
- Red Hat Linux Advanced Server, 64 bits
Two HP rx5670 servers, each with
- 4 CPUs: 1 GHz Itanium 2
- Cache, L1/L2/L3: 32kB / 256kB / 3.0MB (all are on-chip)
- 4 GB of DDR-SDRAM memory
- 4 x 36 GB disks
- 4.0 Gflops / CPU
- Gigabit Ethernet
- Red Hat Linux Advanced Server, 64 bits
